HOME / Eagle Scout Project

Are you looking for an idea for your Eagle Scout project? Did you know you can earn your Eagle Scout by educating others about organ, eye and tissue donation and encouraging them to sign up on the Donor Registry?

ClaytonA scout named Clayton recently earned his Eagle Scout and helped several people register their wishes to be a donor.  For Clayton, this project was very personal.  This is how Clayton explained why donation was so important to him.

In 2008, I lost my older brother, Calvin.  The first thing my parents were asked was if they would consider organ donation.  Even though they had never really discussed this before, they immediately said “Yes.”  Calvin was always helping people and they just knew that he wouldCalvin want to still help others.

He was able to donate different tissues and his corneas.  Soon after, we received a letter telling us that two different people had each received a cornea.  We were so happy to find out that two previously blind people were receiving the gift of sight that year.  Since then we’ve been big proponents of two things:
1. Wear Your Seatbelt
2. Become an Organ Donor

Clayton picked a day to educate his community about donation.  He organized several other scouts and set up information tables at many different locations.  One woman stopped by a table and told them it was the third time that day she saw one of their tables, so she decided this must be important enough to find out more.  She ended up registering as a donor.

All the scouts who helped Clayton with his project are eligible to receive their Donor Awareness patch.
