It started with a couple of moms who know what it is like to sit in a hospital knowing that their child will not survive without a transplant. As they watched other mothers go through the same process that they had already been through, they decided they wanted to help. They contacted Intermountain Donor Services, got a group of moms together, and formed the MOD Squad (Mothers for Organ Donation).
The MOD Squad consists of approximately 25 women. Most of these women have a child who has had a transplant or one who is currently waiting. One woman is a recipient who received a transplant when she was six months old. Their goal? To educate everyone they come in contact with about the importance of making the decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. But they don’t want people to stop there. They want people to have a discussion about donation with their family. It is not enough to decide for yourself. You might have to make that decision for a child, or a family member who did not make their wishes clear.
